Marianne Deludes The World

2020

Like a wasted body part the bare armature is made from rebar, concrete and a charred log, ‘Marianne,’ the French symbolic figure of liberty, holds erect a burnt-out torch made from newspaper. If the torch were lit, its combustion would be rapid and unsustainable. Liberty’s arm was shipped back to France where it was first exhibited in 2019 as that U.S. had become utterly incapable of embodying the symbols it projects.

Marianne Deludes The World, 2020, aquaresin-concrete mix, newspaper, steel rebar, charcoal log, cast concrete bag, 84.25 x 41.34 x 11.81 inches
